Social networking is certainly the students' world. I can't imagine too many teachers being happy to bring Facebook into the classroom.
Ning is an excellent and easy to use application for creating and m
anaging your own social network.
Second Life...... far too dependent on a decent internet speed. Maybe once our internet connection is back up and running but it will require a great deal of preparation for teachers to ensure it works and doesn't just become another "excuse" to use technology without students gaining some real educational benefit.
